In John chapter 10, Jesus mentioned that He had come to bring to us a quality of life that He described as abundant ("I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." - John 10:10b). A lot of things flood my mind when I hear the word abundant. When I dig a little into this word that Jesus used to describe the type of life He offers us, I have to admit that I am struck with both a sense of eager anticipation and a sense of disappointment. The eager anticipation has to do with the fact that in the Greek, the word abundant (perisos), literally means: super-abundant in quantity and quality. This super-abundant life in quantity and quality is little understood, believed or taught by the church - but it is the word of Jesus. That’s the kind of life we all want. That is the life that Jesus wants to give to us.
On the other hand, when I measure my life against this promise, I find that many areas of my life do not match up with the promise. The Scriptures teach that we perish for a lack of knowledge. It is my contention that many believers are living lives far less than abundant simply because of a lack of understanding.
This new section on our website is dedicated to abundant living. It will take many turns and twists as we develop it and we will offer links to other sites that we believe will be helpful in your quest to experience a super-abundant life in both quantity and in quality. We will be talking about health, about finances, about marriage and parenting, about job satisfaction, leisure, etc. And, if you have a helpful article or insight to contribute, please feel free to e-mail your suggestion and we’ll figure out where to place it.
I end with this simple blessing from the Book of III John 1:2…
“Dear friends, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
